If your child has this- what were the symptoms and how did you confirm diagnosis?

Strep literally once a month on the button. Eventually we needed to remove tonsils and that older all the probs

My Dr has suspected my child has had it for years, but the treatment is steroids from what I understood so he wasn't rushing to give it. My child gets severe and sudden fever with enlarged lymph nodes for 4-5 days every few months, and then they are fine. My child almost always gets tested for strep and it came back positive only once in the 6 years or so we've been through this. My understanding is that if it's strep than it's not necessarily fever syndrome but I could be wrong. I'm hoping the child will age out of it soon. They miss a lot of school unfortunately.

Never confirmed, just assumed based on symptoms.
high fever every few weeks, with barely any other symptoms except swollen lymph nodes, tiredness. and lasts about 4 days.
we tracked for a few months when he had fever, if other kids in school were sick also, if there were any other symptoms to explain the fever...
we were told he would just grow out of it, and we do see it getting less often.
