There are various threads on this topic already but I haven't seen any threads addressing this in particular.

Do you believe schools' administrations receive a kickback from the filtering company they sign up with as approval?

If they do, how would you feel about it?

No, I think they are just aware of the dangers of the internet and are trying to protect heir students. They are not being selfish or mean by making these rules.

If they were getting commission, I would feel no desire to obey them. But I highly doubt that they are.

I can’t imagine that the filter companies make enough profit it should be worth it for them to share the earnings with the schools.

No I don't think so. I still disagree with policing the parents and forcing specific filters.

Ther is no monthly work to maintain a filter.
How many kids in the average school multiplied by an average of 1.5 devices per household at $40 a month.
You truly believe there's no kickback for enforcing filter A vs B?

I do believe there’s some kickback as the proof is in the kosher devices coming out. The ones that are not from the schools list automatically get assured. When they technically are the same thing. My kids school goes through tag anytime they come up with new phone or device they come home with a note promoting it. If school doesn’t get some kickback/benefit why would they advertise for them?

Undecided if they get a kickback.
I am pro filtering devices and %1,000,000 against schools requiring a certain filter.

Of course there is work. Updating lists, tech support, making sure that computer updates don't fry the filter.

If a school says you must use a certain filter company I would assume they get some sort of kickback.

Undecided is enough of an answer lol!

This is specifically regarding schools requiring an 'approved' filter.

I’ve always thought so

No skin in the game. My kids schools don’t require it and we don’t do it

No. I worked in two schools and both places just recommended the ones they developed and relationship with and trusted. Zero kickbacks. Its not enough of a profit to share.

I also want to understand. What is this entity “the school” that is earning these controversial kickbacks and why people care so much that someone might be getting paid.
