How’s the community, how are the schools, are there MO or JPF in the community?

Is it an expensive place to live? Are the people nice and friendly or keep to themselves?

It's a great comunity. Not too big and not too small. There are MO and JPF - they send to RPRY for elementary school (some to Netivot Montessori in East Brunswick and some more MO bus to Kushner in Livingston). Some more right-wing JPF send to Shaarei Tzion.
Schools are overall strong though each have their chesronos (what school doesn't). Two things to consider: if you need special ed there is relatively weak local support (yes it exists but not nearly adequate, kids with more intense needs go to Sinai and sometimes publich school). And high schools are not local - MO/JPF send kids by bus to mainly northern NJ schools. So there are plenty of high school options but all require a commute if you are not willing to consider the local yeshiva (RJJ) and BY.
Expense is relative - it is much cheaper than NY/Teaneck but more expensive than Lakewood. People are generally friendly and there is a strong sense of community achdus among the different shuls/subgroups etc.
I'd be happy to answer more specific questions.

I always looked at Edison/Highland park as a hidden gem..... nice, welcoming, out of town feel, yet close to all of the major in-town areas. Lot's of achdus between the different shuls and types of Jews. The school there that I know abt are Shaarei Tzion and BY, they are definitely going to be more expensive than Lkwd and Bklyn schools. Many of the teachers/Rebbeim travel in from Lakewood, the level of learning is high, and the English departments are good.
It is a growing community, the schools are growing, and it seems like a nice community to raise children.
