Hi,
I think before a year I did not cut out feedings (I exclusively nursed) but once they were about 6 moths old they were nursing only every 4 hours or so and that is around when I started to introduce solid foods.
The goal is to slowly build up to them eating 3 meals a day plus snacks by the time you start cutting out nursing. Babies need the breastmilk/formula until they are about 1 so I waited till that point to started cutting out the feedings.
I did the baby led weaning method (not strictly) and I was very happy with it. My children are not picky at all, food is barely ever an issue, and I found that cutting out the nursing wasn't particularly difficult.
Here are some ideas of what you can give your 10 month old:
avocado slices
banana
hard boiled eggs
scrambled eggs
shredded chicken
ground meat
veggies from soup
cheese slices
PB and J sandwiches sliced in strips
I also made sure to introduce all allergen foods like sesame, PB, nuts, eggs etc
Sample schedule for my 10 month olds (from memory, not exactly!):
-Nurse when they wake up
-breakfast at babysitter (pancakes, cut up fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, eggs, cheese etc)
- pumped bottle around 4 hours after their first feed of the day
-Lunch at baby sitter (bread with cream cheese, peanut butter, chumps etc, noodles, soup in thermos, fish sticks, cut up pizza, leftovers from dinner etc..)
-nap
- pumped bottle after nap
- snack (bamba, crackers,fruit etc)
- Dinner (early around 4 iish)
- Nurse
- Sleep
