Looking for somewhere nice to stop for a few hours halfway between Lakewood and Virginia with kids 2-14.

It depends where in Virginia you're going, but I would think Baltimore or DC would be a good place to split up the trip, and both offer nice family-friendly activities. Luray Caverns is another nice option depending on your route.
