Come to Israel! I also grew up in town, Lakewood. But I'm living here for a few years and can't think of moving back! People here are so much more real.. . The cost of living I feel is so much cheaper too.

Okay but how do people make a living there? What are work opportunities like? I’m dreaming of moving to Israel but the financial piece is what’s stopping me

I think any mid sized OOT out of the tristate area (those are expensive) community would be a good fit - enough amenities and options for an in towner, but less of a rat race then Lakewood.
So Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore, Miami could all work.
Cost of living should be taken into account, as should job availability, unless you are remote and can take your jobs. In general Lakewood jobs pay a lot compared to cost of living, especially if we talking about no degree, office type jobs, so that is a big deal.

Highland Park/Edison Community is great! Schools are welcoming (no issues getting in) resteraunts, a bakery, and close enough that you can drive to lakewood to do shopping if you want. (Not necessarily needed tho)

What kind of community is it? Yeshivish, mo, litvish, jpf?

There isn't really a set thing. You have basically all of it.

Shuls, we have:

Yeshivish
Litfish
Chassidish
"Middle of the road" orthodox"

And there is reform/conservitive
Etc.

Schools:
There is yeshivah Shaarie Tzion (YST), they have a pre school (in separate building.) And a Boys school and Girls school. Similar to beis Yaakov, but they don't only focus on Hebrew subjects, they equally care about English subjects. There is a uniform, etc.

RPRY:
Is co-ed up until 3 or 4th grade, then they separate, but in same building. They have preschool in building.

In North Brunswick, not too far from. Here is a chabbad school as well.

Their is also a Jewish montosaury.

And then little playgroups, daycares, in home babysitters, etc.

There is literally a place for everyone.

Monsey is in town (plenty of people keeping up) yet there is not that pressure of society. It’s spread apart so you won’t feel like you do in Lakewood.

your both right. I live in Marine Park and when I read these threads, I am so chilled. I have no need to keep up with anyone in this neighborhood, I think I am doing well on my own. got my own style, my kids never ask me for anything trendy..Always just doing my own thing. There schools , shopping, doctors. Parking is not great nut I always manage.

Not that this helps OP but it must be somewhat subjective. I mean I moved from Brooklyn to 5 towns and I felt like it wasn’t much of a culture shock; there are the haves and have nots, the ritzy people hang out together because like attracts like. I found my low key people in Brooklyn and I’m slowly finding the low key ones here.

Chicago especially peterson park. West Rogers Park is a big mix of all kinds and peterson park is more lakewood ish.

Big fat disagree from me.

Ime Peterson park will give you all of the rat race without enough of the in town conveniences you're used to.

You can do your own research, obviously, but that's my opinion.
