Are Aidel and Ettel the same name pronounced differently? Or are they different names? What does each mean?

According to this Aidel is a derivative of Adina and Ettel is a derivative of Esther

Not at all the same name. Aidel is a Yiddish word that means refined. Adina is literally the translation of Aidel. Ettel is a Yiddish name that probably comes from a biblical name but in and of itself doesn’t mean anything. It might come from Esther, the way Masha might be from Miriam and Basha from Basya.

No. Ettel is from Esther. Aidel, I don't know. Don't confuse Aidel with Odel, though. They're not the same name, either.

Udel would probably be the more accurate spelling.

ETA as in Bal Shem Tov's daughter.

A lady who named her daughter Odel told me it means Odeh La'kel - thanking Hashem.

That sounds nice but it’s probably not true.
Yiddish speakers in Europe all had very different accents. If you’ve heard German, Austrian, Polish, Hungarian and Russian Yiddish you’ll know what I mean. That means Aidel, the Yiddish name meaning noble and refined, changed its vowel sound as it crossed borders. It turned into Idel, Odel and Udel.

Someone I know wanted to name their kid after a grandmother. The matzeiva said Edel.
So they weren't sure if the name was Aidel or Ettel. They asked a big Rav/Posek who hails from the same community back in Europe.

His response: the name is Aidel and you can call her Adina.

They ended up naming her Aidel.

This was my assumption as well. My grandmother was Udel. But the names are spelled differently, Udel is אדל.

I recall reading that it derives from Yehudis. Also an acronym for Aish Das Lamo.
