I was shocked to learn that there are still schools out there who don't have a no hitting policy, or don't enforce it.

School, city, state... most schools today have strict policies in general regarding ANY touch between a teacher and student.

I don't know that the school itself has a policy because it's a legal school. In our location, it's illegal to use corporeal punishment on children in schools-public or private.

There isn't a no stealing or no murdering policy either because it's bigger than school policy.

A quick Google Search says that Corporal Punishment is Legal in Private Schools in all states except NJ, Iowa, and Maryland.

I'm not defending the practice at all

My schools do not at all. And in fact have very active training, supervision, behavior modification programs, etc to help Rebbeim with discipline and stuff.

But I did want to state the law (at least according to Google)

I am certain that if a teacher, rav, administrator, of staff member at my son's school hit a student, he'd be fired on the spot.

My children's school is a regents school in NYS. They are also bound by corporeal punishment legal prohibitions like the public schools as a result (although not all private schools are in NYS).
