How old are they? If in the two range don’t make a big reaction just say calmly hands are not for hitting, gentle hands only, maybe demonstrate gentle hands on a doll. They can hit a pillow or doll if they are frustrated. Obviously if you can remove the kids before they get hurt.

theyre between 14 months to 20 months old. theyll hit the same kid again a second after saying that hands arent for hitting... ill try the role play with doll tomorrow. The hitting has no rhyme or reason for any of my students. im trying to figure out why theyre doing this behavior...

My daughter is 25 months and does this (although the teachers say she doesn’t do it during the day, she does it when I come and pick her up randomly instead of saying “bye” to some kids she’ll go up and hit them- in this case I think she’s just disregulated and exhausted from a long day or maybe just possessive like this is my mommy. Idk im not concerned since it’s not all day- but even so hitting at this age is age appropriate. We just have to model the right behaviors and not make a big deal. They thrive on big reactions.
