It’s chicken baked with dried fruit and has a marinade so it gets pretty saucy. Can I heat it up on Shabbos day? I don’t remember what you are allowed to do regarding saucy foods. And it has the fruit also.. is that an issue?

😞 Anyone have a suggestion for a sweet chicken recipe I can make and reheat for Shabbat lunch? I have thighs and drumsticks.

I find that the easiest reheatable Shabbos-day chickens have breadcrumbs or cornflake crumbs on top. The only sweet one I make like that is that I mix maple syrup and dried thyme and a tiny bit of mustard, pour and brush it over the top of the chicken, then top with breadcrumbs. Spray with a little bit of oil. I think it calls for it to be baked uncovered, but I bake it covered and it stays moist and delicious.

Note that even this type of recipe does have the chicken sitting in a little bit of chicken-juice at the bottom of the pan. Our rav holds that's fine, that it's just considered part of the chicken and not extra liquid. I think other people might hold otherwise, that it needs to be completely dry. If that's how you hold, maybe cook it and then put the pieces into a different pan before reheating, leaving the liquid behind.

According to Shulchan Aruch Harav, one cannot warm up anything but completely dry foods like baked goods. Every kind of chicjen and protein will form moisture.

Ah, so this is good to know. My understanding is that generally the Shulchan Aruch Harav is followed by (most?) chassidim. I am litvish, and so is my (yeshivish) rav, so I'm guessing that's why he held it was okay.

Please ask the shayla before relying on me Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

We definitely warm up chicken and meat. I just wasn’t sure what exactly is allowed if a chicken is in sauce. If you can heat up the chicken without all the liquid sauce (just whatever is sitting on the chicken) and if so if the cooked fruits would be ok to heat up also with the chicken .
