I need to get reading tutoring for my daughter, 1st grade. About how much could I expect to pay? I know it ranges, but I'm just trying to get an idea.
A poster below said $75 a half hour. Is that normal??

For what? I tutor for $35 half an hour reading, but it's at the low end. Monsey.

You pay for a half hour, not an hour.

I find the tutors that come to the school charge less than the tutors that do it in their house.

What is the tutoring for? I used to tutor math and reading. Maybe I can give you ideas for things to do at home.

Reading is quite specialized.

Honestly, as a former reading tutor who spent thousands of dollars on degrees plus training, you can get similar results using a done for you reading program. Granted it’s more boring for the kids, but if the kid is cooperative you can do without shelling out all that money.

A homework helper type of tutor will charge anywhere between $35 and $50 a session. They will be capable of giving your child extra reading practice and perhaps troubleshooting some letter combinations/word patterns your child is having a hard time with.

A reading specialist that will teach your child to read from the ground up and will address any issues that are preventing fluent reading will charge much more. $75 a session is on the low end; I've heard of much more.

It depends. If the child has a learning disability and you want a trained professional then yes you will pay for that. If you're looking for a college age student to provide homework help then they're charging too much.

$150 an hour has been the norm for the past few years already.
It's cheaper if you can get tutoring through the school during school hours, if that's a possibility.
My kids school changes $20 per half hour of in school tutoring.

That sounds high! I am a reading specialist, took trainings, have degree, and charge 50$ for a half hour.

We pay $80 for 45 min but The price changes depending how many times a week so I if you do twice a week It’s 75 three times a week is 70
We are doing reading using the Wilson Program. We started out Originally doing Orton Gillingham with someone. It’s definitely an expensive but a important one if it’s really needed. We have been doing reading support for over 5 years so far.

We don’t know the situation. Was she up to par with the new school? They could be for whatever reason doing the family a favor by accepting into a grade the child hasn’t been properly prepared academically for

This is definitely in the normal range for a well trained reading specialist.

What if it's not a reading specialist though, but a reading tutor? Not a homework helper, a trained reading tutor with experience, but just not an actual specialist.
