Put a piece of foil at the bottom of the sink. Add half a cup of salt and half a cup of baking soda and plenty boiling water. Add the silver, make sure its fully covered. Leave for half an hour or so. Rinse well.
NB I've done this for small things, especially works well on items with intricate patterns. I've not done it for my big candlesticks.
NNB be careful not to fleshig up your bechers etc if you use a meaty sink to do this in

Line a pot with aluminum foil.
Pour in boiling water and sprinkle some baking soda.
Put the silver in and leave for a few minutes. The tarnish from the silver will transfer to the foil and you don't have to scrub anything!
This works best for smaller things - silverware, jewelry, bechers... you would need a pot big enough to fit serving dishes, candlesticks, etc.

I've read it can leave micro scratches and pitting on the silver.

"While baking soda and foil can quickly remove tarnish from silverware, some dealers caution against using it on antique silver, as it can be too abrasive and ruin the finish."

https://www.quora.com/Can-the-.....sages

"WARNING: DO NOT DO THIS.
The reaction is quite powerful, and will begin to strip the silver once the tarnish has been removed. After a while, the silver will become dull and corroded. There are special plates available that use different combinations of metal to achieve a controlled reaction that only removes the tarnish."

I need some help.

I tried this with my candlesticks before Shabbos and I didn't realize that they are hollow.. Now they are full of water and I can't get it out! There are a couple of hairline cracks at the base where I can get a drop of water out with effort, but it's not going to work for all the water I hear sloshing around inside. What to do??

You might need to use something else for candlelighting today.
Set it in a safe place over a thick folded towel and let is drain for a few days.

(There may be an internal screw that you can open up and then put back together if you're handy.)

I bought wipes for polishing silver on Amazon.
It does not have a hechsher as does regular silver polish so I’m not sure about using it on kiddush cups but it works well for a quick job on candle sticks.
