We just got an email telling us that my son was not accepted to the Mir. Any ideas who we can reach out to for help pushing him in?

I'm sorry. I think I would start with his rebbeim and rosh yeshiva and your family rav. Hatzlacha.

Which shiur did he want to go to? They are no longer accepting boys who just want to join, only if they join a specific shiur or chabura.

Try a Lubavitch yeshiva

If your son is serious about learning, he can sit in the Mir, in a chabura. He won't be in their dorm or eat the meals. But he can learn there. There are many small chaburas, you would need to check if the boys are your son's style. One is Reb Berel Friedman. There's a Rabbi Gelzhaler, they are offshoots of Mir. But each zman different boys join so check out each chabura. Hatzlocha.

OP, I have heard that's it's not so easy to get in any more. But definitely start with asking his current Yeshiva to try to help.

I think many people go learn there without being formally accepted

Many boys just show up. Find him somewhere to live and send him. He needs to show up every day and talk to the maggid shiur of the shiur he wants to join. This only works for very serious boys that really want to learn and are willing to fight for a spot.

Sorry is this for real? You apply to go somewhere, you get a rejection, and then you just go anyway?! I can't believe these suggestions! How would they not know? Is it really ok to sit in their batei medrash if they intend on the space being for who they accepted? Op, this sounds crazy, maybe verify before sending a child to a yeshiva that didn't accept him! And I'm sorry, I hope he gets in somewhere soon.

Yeah this is the norm in this specific place. He can just show up it’s how it is

Does he have a smartphone?
They are really trying to eliminate smartphones from the yeshiva and this could be the reason.

There are so many other yeshivos in Israel though. If he's not a fit for the Mir, he shouldn't just show up.

What does his current Rebbi or Rosh Yeshiva have to say?

So how do they pay tuition? It isn't free, or is it? Then I'm sending all my boys asap! Lol

It's not so simple. Yes, he can technically just plop himself down in one of the batei medrash and learn BUT he can't be in a shiur so he won't have a rebbi (not recommended), he can't eat any of the food, he won't have an official seat so he can be asked to move and will have to find a new seat every day, he will have to find a dira with friends and not be in the dorm or one of the official yeshiva diras.
Also, he can't get a student visa or insurance if he's not registered in a yeshiva.

It’s free if you’re not paying room and board or food. But most people give donations anyway. It’s not the ideal thing for many boys as not being registered means it’s a free for all pretty much.

His current Rosh Yeshiva would be the best resource right now. Mir currently only accepts based on the recommendation of his current Rebbi or Rosh Yeshivah.
It is not recommended to send boys without being registered unless you hire a personal chavrusah

For the serious boys they end up accepting them after 2 weeks of showing up every day and trying to join a shiur.

I heard that you can get accepted if your chavrusah is accepted to the shiur.
