We are out of town and spending around 1200-1700 per month. We are a family of 5 (parents and 3 kids). I'm wondering if that's crazy? Prices did go up a ton.

I don’t think it’s crazy
It’s hard to face reality sometimes but it’s not crazy

That's pretty much what we spend for a family of 6 in Baltimore (kids range from preschool age to early teen). I agree it's too much. But we gotta eat.

Way too much TMI

Wish there were a way to cut back, but I find groceries to be one of the hardest areas to trim. Other areas I can cut out completely, like takeout, dry cleaners etc, but we can't just not buy food. And of course the kids love the most expensive snack bags ($.75 a bag per child [kah there are many of them] per school day), and that's already $30 on my weekly grocery bill. My little ones need to bring yogurt to morah and to be able to feed themselves and the squeezees are $1.19 on a good day. Chicken cutlets can be 8.99/lb, not thinned or trimmed, which is almost $30 per supper.

And don't get me started on plastics...And no, I don't own a dishwasher. So yeh, OP, we spend waaaay too much on food.
