Looking for ideas of a good magazine subscription for a 13 year old boy. Not one of the Jewish ones. I think it will make shabbos more enjoyable for him to have some new reading material to look forward to. He doesn't like reading fiction but does enjoy non fiction, particularly science, history, economics, and technology. I also want to make sure whatever we subscribe to doesn't have an agenda. I used to have a Scientific American subscription when I was his age, unfortunately they are no longer the publication they once were and it is no longer appropriate. Nat Geo kids is too babyish for him, and I'm concerned regular Nat Geo might be similar problems to Scientific American. Anyone know of a good, interesting magazine for a teen boy that is also not pushing an unfortunate agenda?

I know you said not Jewish, and I hate when posters give advice that's the opposite of what was asked for, but...

The Zman magazine (is it still around) sounds perfect. No fiction, just high-interest deep exploration of topics that boys love. Interesting historical topics, military stuff, world records, money. Not so much science, thought. And it's perfectly clean.

There are Yiddish ones like this too, if he likes reading Yiddish - Shtern, Shpaktiv, Blitz. My boys love them.

We are not Yiddish speakers, so no yiddish. I'll look into the suggestions, I know I said not the Jewish ones, it's not that I'm against them, I'm just really not sure if there are any that could scratch the itch, so to speak. But if the ones suggested here could work, I'll certainly give it a chance!

Try Kid's National Geographic.
Even though it's for younger kids, my kids all love it!

Oh, right, Makif, that was the name of the other English one.

Zman and Makif are just what you explained you are looking for.

And you will not have to worry about hashkafa or agenda.

As stated above: deep dive into a variety if topics/happenings of interest.

All non fiction.

I’d buy both for Succos to give them a shot.

I'm seeing zman has a website but makif does not. How would I get ahold of the latter?
