I’m sorry. But this argument doesn’t hold water. Every other working parent has to make yom tov working much longer hours and most probably also working full day Friday.

Our school does it for traveling as most cities are a full day's drive away and many go away. If we were on the East Coast, I think we'd have school.

True but they also get paid more..... this is one benefit that encourages teachers to work as teachers.....

As a teacher I really hate these comments. No my schools decision to give off has nothing to do with me!!!

And besides if people are upset we are off why don’t you become teachers? We have a teacher shortage. No one is stopping you from becoming one and this way you won’t have to work Erev yt and be bitter about the schools schedule that the teachers don’t control!

There are plenty of people that work full time and don’t get more.
Should we also close mikvahs since mikvah ladies need to make yom tov? Plenty of MLs work during the day as well. We also need time to make yom tov. 🤷‍♀️

I totally hear you OP. My girls had a late start yesterday and are done until after succos and the boys had a full day yesterday and a half day today. Even to give off time for traveling, why arent there full days for boys and girls on Tuesday AND Wednesday?

I don’t think anyone is blaming teachers. They don’t make school calendar decisions. People upset with school administration and their lame excuses for no school.
Even if it’s for traveling. Travel after work on Thursday or maybe take a vacation day and find a local substitute for your class. That what any other working person would do.

I guess depending where you live.
I was upset my 10 yo had no school yesterday.
I had scheduled an appointment before I realized my 4 year will be going an hour later. (My other kids also went an hour later. Reasonable) So I needed to leave the house 20 minutes before his bus in order to make it to my appointment in time. I would have asked a neighbor to have him for those 20 minutes but becuase she was home I asked her to put him on. But then the next 2 hours she was stiff bored. All my neighbors her age had school. Either they attend her school and are 4th grade (she's 5th) or they are 5th and 6th and they go to different schools and those kids had school.....
She was mamish in tears kept asking me when the other kids get home.
Why was she home yesterday? Cuz she fasted till 11 and davened a bit and then played w her siblings all day and noshed on chips and ices all day?
It didn't dawn on me that she won't have school! I needed a bit if space after my appointment. We got not such great medical news and I needed some time alone. Instead I needed to entertain her. It's not her fault my day was so hard. But I so don't get it.

All my kids have school regularly hours today and tomorrow. No school Friday.
