Just so you know...there are some local gift stores that have the most ridiculous policies regarding gifts.

If you contribute to a gift for a Chosson/Kallah at certain local stores, some have specific hours (which happen to be during work/yeshiva time) when they can use their credit. DD had to take off from work to get her gifts at a certain store.

Another place will not let her use her credit at certain times. For example, they told her before YT that she cannot use it till after YT. Why? Because that's their "policy", a store credit cannot be used before YT. Oh, they were also closed during much of her engagement (Bein Hazmanim). And her credit expires 3 months from her engagement, so it just might not be usable at all.

Her best experiences were with Kitchen Clique and Set Your Table.

If you are contributing to a gift and you want your recipient to actually be able to use it, keep this in mind.

Thank you- this is very good to know.
I always felt like those stores were on the more expensive end so is it still worth it if you aren't getting more bang for your buck or is it actually the same price?

Thanks!

I'm always the one to arrange for family Simchos and someone just told me this. I was so happy to switch stores because not all the stores are the easiest to deal with when you set up the registry either...

I agree all these stores have expensive gifts. They should at least be usable though, with normal customer service. To require a Kallah to take off from work to get her gift, and to not be usable for half her engagement period, is for sure the biggest waste of money though. People should be aware of the policies. I wouldn't want to buy a gift for a Kallah if I knew she would have to jump thru hoops to actually get it!

And that is why I now use only DB electronics when arranging our family group gift. They're the easiest to deal with and have no ridiculous rules when using your gift. Other stores had unfair policies !!

So frustrating!
Personally I hate those gift stores!
I think kallas should be given gift cards to DB electronics or center of town.
Or gift card registery!

The bolded - I wonder if this is even legal or halachicly acceptable. These stores who do this are stealing. A gift card should not expire at all. If a store wants to set a limit, like three years since date of issue then maybe, but three months from time of engagement - no, sorry. That's gneiva.

It should be at least 3 months after wedding date! Chosson and kalla should be able to go pick together!!
