My daughter is currently a size 10
Tried on a bunch of shabbos dresses, the 10 is perfect, covers her knee just just but the width of the dress is perfect for her. The size 12 is mid calf length and a bit wider. Do I go up to the 12 and say she’ll grow into it? She’s a tall girl, will be 9 in the summer and needs to cover her knees.

If you want it perfect for pesach get the 10.
If you want to for the whole season take the 12, hem it now (or leave it of you don’t care) and let down as needed provided it isn’t too wide on the waist for her.

Buy larger size and hem it if needed. It would be a pity if she grew out of it before she would have had a chance to enjoy it.

My kid is often in in-between sizes when it's time to buy new.
Size up and hem. Never regretted it.
If it's a waisted dress with elastic, pull the rubber together a little tighter. If it's a wider cut, some dresses I've done a tiny tuck under the arm with machine or by hand to make it fit better. Then let it out as the kid grew.
Happy shopping

I have the same with my 5 year old. 6 fits her perfectly, and most clothing companies today don’t make 6x or 7 so it’s straight to 8. And 8 is really big on her…. In my case I will have to try on each dress /skirt I buy her to make sure I get it right.

I also had that issue too, but found that Junee’s brands dresses came in a 7 which was just below her knee so should be perfect for summer
