What kind of beach? The Atlantic Ocean is pretty far.
Or do you mean just a lakefront? Specifically with sand or just water views?

Lake Welch Beach - doesn't compare to an ocean beach but still a nice change of scenery
Make sure to check when the swimming hours are because you generally do NOT want to be there then. There's more fleisch than zip...

There's Lake Welch beach but it's not a nice beach & attracts a low crowd.
I drive to Deal for the beach. It's a pleasure.

and very far for someone who doesn't have much time, their own car, etc. For this distance, you can go to the Rockaways or Long Beach. Brighton Beach is even closer.
Lake Welch is fine when there's no lifeguard.

I live in Monsey and try to visit the beach in Long Branch, N.J. a few times a summer. It's at least a 90 - minute drive, often longer, but it's worth it! There's often parking available near the corner of Ocean Avenue and Brighton Avenue. You need to pay for parking. Officially, you need to pay for beach access, too, but it isn't always enforced.
I've heard that it's also possible to travel from Spring Valley to Long Branch by train, but I've never tried it myself.

It's about the same distance to Sheepshead Bay or Coney Island...

You can't find a beach closer than the ocean so it will take travel to the ocean - Deal, Brooklyn, Far Rockaway to reach a real beach. Enjoy!

Orchard beach is in the bronx, about 45 minutes away. It's actually quite nice if u need something closer.

Deal Beach is probably the closest ocean

Lake welsh is a man made beach. There is sand and water, no waves. It’s nice but nothing compared to a real beach.
