I got rid of my canola oil a while ago, but I want to make potato kugel.
What can I substitute it with?

Avocado or light olive here too, but if you have a reason not use oil you can make potato kugel without. Oil spray on bottom of the pan. Potatoes, an onion, eggs, boiling water. Leave out the oil. It won’t be exactly the same but it’s very good. You might even like it better.

I use avocado for almost everything. Most cooking and almost all baking.
All my recipes work just as well with avocado oil as it did with canola oil. Things are definitely better especially the high temp stuff.

I use extra virgin. I also put in boiled water.
As per this site, I learned light olive oil is junk.

I don't put any oil in the batter. If I did, it would've olive oil.
I put some oil in the bottom of the pan and some on top of the batter.

I switched to avocado oil and no one noticed.
I feel it gives a lighter better taste to it.
Should of switched years ago.

Ok now that the kugel is in the oven -
Not sure if I should make a spinoff but what do you use in salad?
I find the Extra Virgin Olive Oil very thick in salad dressing 🤮

Add a bit of water or use avocado oil in dressing it’s very good.

I find the Extra Virgin Olive Oil very thick in salad dressing 🤮 | It's an acquired taste but you can look for a top quality one with no bitter aftertaste. Lemon juice cuts the grease as well. Avocado oil is not unhealthy like other pufa's but it doesn't hold a candle to evoo in terms of health benefits

I don't mind the taste it's just very thick.
I always use lemon juice.
I'm not necessarily looking for health benefits, I just don't want to use the unhealthy oils, so I've only been using EVOO and Avocado oil
Do you have a dressing you can share?
Thanks!

Thanks! | I'm not sure what you mean by thick, I've never noticed it being thicker than any other oil
