For Shabbat or weekday? IIRC, for Shabbat we had an ecru linen-look cloth with a scalloped edge and darker overcast stitching all along the edges. It was a wedding gift. For weekdays I honestly have no recollection. Maybe we used placemats that were also a gift?

The cloth we use now for Shabbat is pale ivory, almost white, with ribs of some sort of decorative textured weaving down the center, covered with heavy clear plastic. We've had it for longer than I remember, which means at least 15 years, possibly as long as 20.

There were two kinds that were in style then, a heavy cut out white cotton with matching napkins that went over a colored cloth and an appliqued one with colored flowers. I received both and still use the appliqued one for Pesach. I also received a few colored cloths that were machine washable and were in use until we bought real dining room furniture with a bigger table. I bought my dd a few really nice cloths at Closeout Connection and a few online at Amazon from Benson Mills. They are all machine washable. One is velvety white with gold marbling. Another is an ivory-gold with a mitered border. Closeout Connection has a really nice selection of more modern and traditional (including stain resistant fabric and faux leather). You can't beat the price of Benson Mills and they wash beautifully. Pretty sure it's owned by a Jewish family, which is a nice plus. If you are looking to really splurge, there are lace like overlays that go over a solid color cloth made by Parlux. They are really beautiful but very expensive and also expensive to clean.

For weekday, we use solid cloths with placemats. The straw or raffia ones are definitely in style.

For your weekday meals in your own home?

Please buy what you think looks beautiful.

Consider it an investment in your self actualization, figuring out what your own tastes are, and in this one small area, being able to do what makes you happy without worrying about what anyone else thinks.

You have a separate tablecloth for fleishigs? Just wash with hot water after using.

I just got married this year. I don't always use a tablecloth, but my MIL just bought us a vinyl tablecloth from closeout connections. it is gray woven linen look, easy care.
