We have less than an hour left here in Israel, and I’m nervous to break my fast soon.

I always get crazy stomach pain, no matter how little or slowly I eat.

I have IBS so my system is weak all the time, and if I fast it’s worse.

Im feeling pretty ok now, as long as I stay put and don’t move around. Not hungry, just a bit thirsty.

Any tips?

Can you try just drinking something with electrolytes and then waiting an hour

I think you will be OK if you eat little at a time. I hope it goes well!

Omg are you me???

I mean I’m in NJ so I still have hours to go but breaking my fast is my biggest fear… it only started being like this a few years ago. I get horrific abdominal cramps and terrible diarrhea very soon after eating… I’ve tried eating differently but I haven’t found a way to prevent this…

I drink first slowly. Then I eat something bland like rice cakes I nibble very slowly. Eat a few over 2 hours nibbling. And then wait to eat in the morning. Eat something light and small for breakfast.

Why specifically a banana? I usually can’t eat banana on an empty stomach, it gives me cramps

You can look up online what foods are good for after a fast with ibs. I looked and it said bland foods. Like eggs, chicken, and cooked vegetables, oats, quinoa. It takes time for the body to move past the fast. Even for people without ibs. So maybe it will take some time for your body to recover. My mother has a lot of problems with her stomach. She can't eat raw fruits and vegetables. But she drinks a lot of snapple and iced tea and eats a lot of chicken soup and tuna. This seems to help her BH

Chicken soup sounds LOVELY! That’s what I eat after YK.
But we wont eat meat/chicken till tomorrow noon. I do have a vegetable soup in the freezer but I’m not in the mood rn

Try leaving out the carbs. Many people with IBS find that giving up carbs helps.
My sister suffered for years with IBS until she was diagnosed with celiac. Cutting out gluten has helped her. Others have found cutting carbs is necessary.
[bananas are high carb, that may be why you can't eat banana on an empty stomach]

Would something like mashed potatoes or a baked potato and tea be easy to digest?

Most people find bananas easy to digest but don’t have one if that won’t work for you

I know I’m late for this fast.
I think key for stomach issues is not to have liquid half hour before and 1.5hrs after so the digestive juices don’t get watered down and the food could be absorbed properly.

I don’t know if this will help you but I used to get really nauseous after breaking my fast. I found that eating something high in protein like eggs really helps. Also not fasting related, but taking IB Gard every day changed my life.

I never had any problems during fasting, but as I got a bit older eating after a fast made me violently ill. I have some GI issues, but no real diagnosis. It would start with cramps, then extreme nausea, cold sweats, dizziness and near fainting. I would have to lie down and would eventually vomit and have violent diarrhea. That could result in GI bleeding. I was so sick that I often debated going to the ER. It would happen if I ate very lightly or more heavily. If I avoided carbs or only ate protein. Did not matter. After years of this, my doctor insisted that I stop fasting and called my Rabbi to get me a heter. I eat the absolute minimum now, but it has completely changed the situation. Not paskening here, just conveying my experience.
