Posting anon because I want to tell the whole background.

If you don’t want to read the background, skip down to the ***.

I am married 30yrs, ba”h, (anniversary was yesterday) and we’ve been building a sukka since the first year.

In our original location (an apartment) our sukka was a huge (12’x28’) free-standing building that we built in the parking lot behind our building (yes, we had permission & we were able to do it in just one parking spot). At one point I painted the inside of the dining room (there were 2 bedrooms as well) to look like clouds to remember the ananei hakavod. Everyone loved it & it was cool because it had 4 full walls so we were surrounded by the clouds.

When we moved (to a town house) after 9 years, we built a succah on the deck. It was smaller and all one room. I decided to go with a more formal look. I painted the walls in two colors (top & bottom) and put a wallpaper border around the middle. It was beautiful. We were there for 8 years and repainted/repapered once on twice but stuck to the same colors.

We moved around for a few years after that and DH always tried to use boards that matched (either clouds or wallpaper) but we never repainted.

We have been in our current location for about 8 years. Early on we painted, two colors with stenciled flowers of the bottom color just above the line. We did it very last minute and I was never thrilled with it.

Each year, I plan to repaint it but the sukka has never gotten up early enough for me to actually have time.

***
My DH is almost done putting up the sukka walls which means I have almost a month to paint. I don’t work out of the house and my (teen) DDs will be out all day, iy”H.

I had dreamed of doing a dramatic dining room paint job- darker bottom half, top with a random line design (using different widths of painters tape to cover a metallic type color while painting a lighter color) and a few bands (different widths) of all 3 colors at the middle. When I was talking to DH just now, he said he had something more whimsical or ‘cute’ in mind.

I’m not untalented but I don’t really draw well. I also tend to be a perfectionist when I do draw something that’s supposed to be realistic. I don’t want to ask someone else to draw for me.

I’m looking for ideas and opinions about how to paint the sukka. Consider this brainstorming, no idea is stupid or bad! Every idea can help me figure out what to do.

Thanks!

Not a paint job, but there are huge vinyl backgrounds that can cover an entire wall. You can look for inspiration there or change it up each year for under $100. You can also make your own for example printing kosel wall on a huge vinyl.

Thanks but I think I’d prefer to paint it. We’ve had issues with hanging stuff before- some years it just falls down (especially when it is rainy) and some years there just isn’t time to put it up (dh tends to run late with putting up the sukka).

Interesting idea, maybe I could trail vines around the walls.

Keep the ideas coming!

Maybe a simple, cute nature scene?

Those are both really cool. I might even be able to pull them off.

Another thing to help you out
You can get a projector with a picture that you want
It will project it on the wall and you can trace with pencil
I have done this with murals

Thanks! That’s beautiful, but I’m looking to paint the actual walls.
