1 year old, as in turning 1 this year?
Focus on toys/games to help them develop their motor skills- tunnels to crawl through, maybe a walker they can push when they start to walk, and sensory toys like water/rice/sand bins or homemade play dough.
When I was working with this age, I put down a mat and gave them board books, different noise makers, and lots of chewable toys. They really enjoyed the silicone stacking cups and blocks.
They also love to look at the pictures in books, you can point things out and name them to help encourage language development.
For kiddos that are over 1 (really any kiddo that can sit up without assistance), it’s not too early to start trying to use crayons (start with palmar grasp crayons, crayola makes a great set, and as their fine motor coordination gets better, you can move to thick crayons), paint dotters, or finger paints.
With my under one’s I did an RH project where we dipped their hands and feet in red paint to be “apples”. And last year I had them paint gift bags that I stuffed with mini honey, apples, and soma in cards.
By 18 months you can start to do short circle time with songs. Do things like puzzle eggs, and they’ll start to probably really enjoy a toy kitchen with food.
