I love a certain name but my SIL’s second name is the same. Is that too close? Is there Halacha about naming same name as siblings if it’s not officially “after” them?

As far as I know there is no Halacha about this. Sometimes children get named for the same (great) grandparents as their aunts/uncles.

My family does this all the time. Many of us have the same name as an aunt/uncle, named for the same great-grandparent. My son also has the same name as my brother, named after the same person.

Edit the title to same name as parents sibling.
It made it sound like two siblings sharing a name.

Yes. You can it’s so common for people to name their kids the same name that their sibling has after a grandparent/greatgrandparent/rebbe/rebbetzen.

I have several nieces with my name (named after my great-grandmother). I have one SIL who named her daughter the same name as two of my SIL's - just a nice name she liked.

I don't think it's a big deal at all. In fact it's a compliment - they can't hate me too much if they chose that name for their daughters Smile.

I also thought this when I read the title.
I know many people who have the same name as an aunt or uncle. It's usually there's a family name that you're naming for. I don't see it as a big deal. It can get slightly confusing, but it's no different really to 2 first cousins with the same name.

From both sides of my family we have many male and female relatives with the same name. Uncles, cousins, aunts.

We say like for example.

Sara maple av
Sara maple lane
Sara maple blvd

Sara -fathers name
Sara father’s name.

(Sara ain’t the name but using it as an example)

All named after the same great grandparents/rebbe/rebbetzen.

In my class we had two first cousins with the same name and last name.
So we called them by the first name and where they are from.

But my family also there’s many cousins with the same first and last name.
(Male and female)
Hence my above example.

Cousin names are different than what OP is asking. She is asking about an aunt/niece or uncle/nephew sharing.

For example with the uncles and cousins with the same name.

Not the real names.

Moshe cohen
Moshe cohen
Moshe cohen
Sara cohen
Sara Cohen
Sara cohen.

Times that by 7 Nieces and 7 nephews with the same first and last name and some aunts and candles with the same first and last name. (Well married aunts and married into the family aunts)
