Any good ideas?
I have never ever had cherry pie filling in my house so I'm clueless what to do with it.
I once ate somewhere a cherry apple kind of pie/crumble. Does anyone have a recipe for such a thing?
Or anything else not too difficult.

Cherry Pie Very Happy

This is a recipe for an absolutely fool proof pie crust. It will remain flaky even if you over work it.

The secret is the combination of vinegar and egg - you can substitute vodka if that is easier

Ingredients

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
¼ cup cold water
1 large egg
1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar

Directions

Whisk flour and salt together in a large bowl. Cut in shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Mix cold water, egg, and vinegar together in a separate bowl. Add to flour mixture and blend with a fork until a ball of dough forms. Divide into three equal balls; flatten each ball into a disk. Wrap disks in plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to use.

To Bake:

Roll one disk on a lightly floured surface to fit an 8- or 9-inch pie pan. Use second disc as either lattice or regular top depending on your recipe.

Bake according to recipe

Easy peasy turnovers: puff pastry, cut into squares, fill with filling. Cross over to form triangle. Brush with egg, bake 400-425 depending on your oven until crispy (usually 20 min).

I make a yummy cherry cake. It's a simple dense yellow cake with the pie filling swirled in.

I do this all the time - Dice up a bunch of apples (I like to use my alligator-type tool to get small dice) and combine with cherry pie filling.
Crumbs on bottom and on top, filling in the middle. I make a bunch at a time and freeze them, take out and bake as needed.
I loosely follow ra-mom's recipe from this thread:

This is a dessert, right? Not a side dish?

I use it as a base for fruit salad. I use my hand blender to blend it while it’s still in the can then throw in whatever I have on hand. Crushed pineapple, pineapple tidbits, diced green apple, peaches, mango etc. I like to top it with pomegranate seeds.

For us it's dessert. It's cherry crumble or apple crumble. Other people tell me they like something sweet "near the chicken" and use it as a side. Laugh

OP you can also make cherry pinwheels. We used to make this quick baked goods as kids.

I think 20 years ago I used to make something like
Cherry pie filling bottom of the pan
Dump Duncan Hines brownie (powder) on top
Cut up a stick of margarine (1/2stick?) into little pieces and put evenly over the top

Bake @350 until it smells good and looks done.

I don’t remember exactly but it is something your 8yo can do and was always a great hit!

Found it in a 10 second Google search
