I wish the Bosch wasn’t German but the stainless steel bowl is the most conducive for large batches of challah. Bread machines are slow and small. The white bowl and dough hook is ok for smaller doughs like pies and such. Mine is 20+ years old and is still working even after once dancing off my counter onto the tile floor.

A relative told me she's had her Bosch for 3 years and only the white bowl and routinely makes a 5lb challah dough in it and has never had an issue.

They literally come with a dough hook. Why would they come with that if it's not intended to be used?

maybe it's for a very small amount. certainly not for 5 lbs of dough, though.

The Bosch is definitely meant to handle that amount of bread dough.

It also depends how much challah you plan on making at once. If you make small batches, either machine would work and I'd recommend the KitchenAid for versatility.

I have a professional KitchenAid that's larger capacity than the standard ones and it can handle 5lb batches of dough, but I prefer hand making it to using the machine. I also make 7-8lb batches. But I still use my KitchenAid for other things a few times a month.

But if you really want to make 5 lb batches of challah using a machine, the Bosch is the best.

A recurring theme among Kitchen Aid users-
“My kitchen aid can handle challah but I prefer to make it by hand.”
Huh?
I’ll stand by what the votes are clearly showing. Bosch is the king of 5lbs of challah dough.

I have a kitchen aid. It couldn't even handle 2.5 lb of dough - the dough went everywhere, crept up into the mechanism, it just didn't work well. So that's why I started looking into a Bosch.
