We have tried everything - every reading method out there. Seen a neurologist etc.
We tried prism glasses that did nothing.
Someone mentioned a doctor in monsey who prescribes colored glasses? Anyone know information?
(He sometimes makes a bit of progress with reading, reading veeeery slow but then regresses again. He is brilliant otherwise and is on par with his class and can take oral test and pass with flying colors. He also has some coordination issues and cannot ride a bike)

Which methods have you tried and what do you think is impeding his reading?
Does he have a visual processing issue?

Have you gotten him evaluated for vision therapy?

I will reply a bit later with everything we tried - open to more ideas
In the meantime if anyone has the colored glasses information would really appreciate it

Did he crawl?
Lack of coordination and crawling is linked to reading issues because the eyes don't track. I would probably try really good OT for this as the problem may be mechanical (neurological really)

Or a vision therapist. Someone to work on visual coordination.
Always good to give a high quality omega 3 supplement when your spending money on therapy. Can help progress faster.

See if you can find someone to check his reflexes. To see if he's having trouble tracking. I did this for my daughter and it helped although this was prereading

Do you have a recommendation in Boro Park?

My understanding of Davis (I could be wrong) is that it's good for kids who can't remember the sound/picture connection. Is that his problem or is he seeing the word jumbled? Or is he not hearing the sounds in the correct order? It's very important when looking for the next best thing to actually know what is tripping him up.

We don't know what is tripping him, that's the problem. Partially he is definitely not processing what he sees, but he listens in class and knows the material

GPS can give you directions so you don't need to read street signs. In the store you can take a picture with a smartphone and it will read any text to you. Etc. A smart kid will learn to compensate.
Of course as a parent you need to keep trying to get to the root. But also know that there are many successful dyslexic adults who can even write professionally (speech to text is also amazing nowadays).

I have seen this but we don't know any eye doctor who prescribes these colored glasses, we heard someone in monsey does but we can't find the info
We have seen some small improvements, he started reading veeeery veeeery slow but then if we didn't keep up the practice he regressed again.

Crawling after a year is definitely a red flag especially combined with reading issues. And was it coordinated army crawling or did he scoot, pull up etc? I would absolutely see someone who can see on a body level if his brain didn't receive the correct input early enough. Movement grows the brain. The coordinated movements help eye tracking and letter processing. Especially if you've tried all other typical routes.

It was regular crawling
Any recommendations? I'm in Boro Park but willing to travel
Like what kind of provider can look on a body level?

I would definitely go to suny college of optometry for a full evaluation, maybe you’ll get some answers

I have heard of it. Not everyone believes in it. My optometrist thinks it's a joke. Another one, a behavioral optometrist I spoke to does believe in it but thinks the treatment under irlen therapists specifically is overpriced and monopolized. She tried giving us coloured lenses to try not as an irlen therapy specifically but we didn't see any difference. Our issues were different though.
