First time voter here. Can’t find the voter registration card I received in the mail a few weeks ago. Can I go vote without it?

Yes, they look you up in the book. Take ID just in case.

No you don't need anything. Isn't voter ID illegal

Depends where you live. Just take ID. they require it your first time
Look up online where your polling station is. Early voting might be elsewhere depending on your city/state

They are not allowed to ask for ID, so no id is needed. They just ask your name and your address.

Just give them your address. They will look up your district, find your name (if you're registered), and send you to the correct booth to vote.

As an aside, how ludicrous is it that you don't need id??? Literally anyone could have voted in my place all they needed was a peice of mail to see my name and address.

Well, technically, it's not that hard for someone to get your first photo ID with their picture on it.

Huh? How would someone get my license or passport easily?

Yes it feels funny. I need an id to go to the dentist and to visit someone in the hospital but not for voting.

You already have one, so they can't. But your first photo ID was obtained without a prior photo ID.

It was obtained with other documentation that would be hard for others to obtain such as my birth certificate and social security card

Yep. I can vote twice if I want to.
I registered as a republican under my maiden name about 10 years ago. When I updated my ID to my married name, dh encouraged me to change the party to democrat as we live in NYC and then I can vote in primaries.
They never removed my maiden name. My parents still get the pamphlets and stuff. My brother saw me in the book one year and asked my why I didn't vote yet.

Nowadays it's all on screens and you can't see the whole list as they scroll through it. But when you had to sign in the book, I could see my deceased grandparents and father all there (alphabetical order makes it easy to check on your family.) I never actually did anything but it was tempting to think I could probably vote 3 extra times and no one would know.

And that's how Biden probably got his 81 million votes.

I’m in nj. We still sign a Book and you can see all names. I got 2 voting mailings in diff states. Most of my married female family members get 2. One with maiden name and one with married name.

But they do check that there is such a person registered. Why make them bother? Bring photo ID.

I just say my name and address and viola. It’s insane. I can say I’m my old demented neighbor and vote for her
