Hi all, ☝️

I’ve attached a YouTube link to a beautiful Mitzvah Tantz done in English.

Curious to hear your thoughts! Personally, I think it adds a new layer, making this tradition (which I also had at my wedding) even more meaningful and understandable.

On the other hand, I know some feel that a Mitzvah Tantz should be in Yiddish to maintain its original taam.

But this video suggests otherwise—it’s still full of taam and heart.

Is English the way forward?

It's not a new thing at all. Just part of the logistics when the Chosson or Kallah doesn't speak or understand Yiddish but they want a Mitzvah Tanz because both of them or one of them is Chassidish or Heimish.
We've had that plenty.

I hear you. I wish mine had been in English like this…
I barely understood a word by my MT, which is a shame. 🫠

This video is so emotional—especially the part with the mother!!

This Badchen, Moskowitz, is truly amazing!

Mine was in Yiddish but I didn’t speak a word of it neither did my mother and most of my family (except my dad + brothers) and we were so bored.
After that my father hired a Badchan who could do English and Yiddish mix so everyone could understand. way nicer when both sides understand it. Nothing new.

Stands to reason that the family should understand what’s being said

Sounds perfect for us. We are heimish and mitzvah tanz is our minhag. My husband loves the performance but my children don't know Yiddish. Dh and dd were just talking about what kind of compromise they can do like halfway in English by someone like Motty Illowitz who can do both.

And this is why, I make sure my girls understand yiddish.
I try have my husband and boys talk yiddish to my girls. And they pick it up from my boys devar torahs, parsha sheets, Usually only consistent about it on shobbas though.
Even though they are in reg lakewood schools, not chassidish..

In my opinion Leiby Moskowitz is best for this!

Mix English/Yiddish

At lease my children will have a meaningful Mitzvah tantz

The new vid is on repeat in my home..

Married 15 years, my Mitzvah Tantz was a mix,
but mainly English. So concept is not new at all.

That was my husband's choice. I wanted to speak yiddish to them as babies and toddlers so they'd have the background. Dh didn't want to, and I don't know Yiddish well enough to carry it on my own. They are grown now BH.

Also, you do realize that we are not chassidish correct? I explained our affiliation in my initial post. Our environment is not a yiddish speaking one.
