To still hurt 3 months later?
I was so careful with alcohol & turning twice a day for 6 weeks.
Then we did the turning everyday for another 3 weeks and DD did seem to complain with one ear sometimes when she turned it.
We now purchased new earrings to switch out the original ones from and that one side was harder to remove, she kept crying. There was a bit of crust on both earrings, but that one had more.
I put on some bactroban after cleaning out the ear gently with alcohol and this morning I removed it again so I could reapply and she's still crying that it hurts when touched. I see it's bleeding slightly & a bit red. No noticeable pus from the outside.
It's not my first kid but it's been a while since I had a girl and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this and if I should just keep at it for a couple more days and hopefully should get better (and probably not remove it again just turn & medicate?) ...or if I should bother the pediatrician (who I'm sure is not going to answer me over the phone and is going to insist I come down).

She might be allergic to the earrings she's wearing. Take them out, apply cream regularly till they heal. Then get her hypoallergenic or real earrings.

I should have mentioned that they are definitely hypoallergenic.

It shouldn't hurt. It could be a reaction to the metal.

Sounds like she is allergic to the metal in the eatings
There have been detailed threads about this in the past and I have also struggled with this with one of my DD.
Different people say different things work for them. Some say a higher carat gold, some say surgical steal or other special hypoallergenic metal...don't remember the other suggestions but good luck.

Yes oc.
Thing is, it's only one ear which is why I'm hesitant to think it's about an allergy because why would only one ear be allergic? I have a feeling it was more because I was letting her do the turning and I think in the beginning she was scared and she wasn't turning both ears properly and then it got a little stuck...so my question is more if anyone's had their child's ear get slightly infected and then it healed on its own.

I never turn the earrings. It will close if you take it out. Go today and buy her gold earrings. If not take it out.
My kids were able to tolerate hypoallergenic earrings until it was no longer good enough. Also not all hypoallergenic earrings are the same even if it’s the same brand. Sometimes I can wear fakes and after a few hours I’m in agony sometimes it’s in minutes.

You shouldn't need to touch them so much. If you need a little mupirocin, then do that. You do to need to turn them.
Not all hypoallergenic earrings are made equal. I'm very sensitive and I can wear only certain white gold earrings and platinum.
18k is for sure better for me than 14k.
The filler metals can be bad.

There's gold and there's gold. To the best of my knowledge some people have reactions if it's low carat gold. If you buy gold plated earrings the gold may come off after a while and the base metal exposed (sterling silver or copper or any kind of alloy)

Thx everyone. I also looked up all the old threads about this and I found one from about 3 years ago and it seems that it's a good idea to get hoop earrings instead of the ones with the post backing and I'm going to put a little bit of meds every night and wait a week because it doesn't seem that dramatically infected that I need to put her through letting it close and re-piercing it.

Yeah I would only get hoops. I'm addition as people said, yous would get gold. I use hypoallergenic for my kids but I had two companies that hurt them and infected their ears so I only stick to a couple brands.
Also I am not sure why you are touching so much. I never heard of turning the earrings. It definitely is going to hurt more if they are constantly being touched. Also, I'm not sure how old your daughter is, but I left the original earrings in for a lot longer than 6 weeks.

I do think you’re supposed to leave the earrings in longer. I have a daughter who tried every type of metal - gold, silver, platinum, hypoallergenic, etc. and ultimately just gave up and doesn’t wear earrings. 🤷♀️

I turned it because they told me to turn it when they pierced her ears.
🤷♀️
Either way will be switching it out for hoops and won't be touching it anymore except to dab a bit of cream on it at night.
I switched it out because she didn't like the tiny earrings that she originally got when we pierced her ears and the lady told me we could switch it out at 2 months and it's been longer than that.
