I'm not usually one for prizes or bribing, but the play room had gotten so out of hand, and I was getting such attitude about cleaning up, I decided I'm doing it.
I sat down with my kids and we discussed a plan of how they would keep the playroom clean, and decided that if they can keep it up for a month they will get a prize, their 2 requests were a new toy, or insane amounts of junk. I chose a month hoping that it would build new habits for them.
They did amazing, and it is consistently much cleaner most of the time. I am not fully satisfied that the habits I was looking to build have stuck, especially for the younger kids. I think I need to review and adapt expectations and try another month. I've told them I am not ready to get a new to yet, but would still like to do something special as a family to acknowledge/celebrate how much effort they put in, and how much it had improved. I asked them what they would like, and they right away took it to the insane amounts of junk. (A full pkg of individual wafers for each kid, the weight of the table in chocolate ).
I'm reading this as they feel the effort involved was enough to warrant something really big (though it could also be seeing what they can get). I suggested a trip, which I think they liked, but I don't think my husband is going to want to go too expensive.
I'm looking for ideas along the lines of a special family experience. Hoping to keep lower budget and that it should be really special for the kids. (Also want to be cognizant not to over reward..)

How old are they? Where do you live? We need more info to recommend anything.

For my kids a trip to the ice cream store would be the biggest treat. It checks off trip and candy in one.

That's a really good idea!
kids are mid elementary to toddlers. I'm more looking for ideas than specific locations, so I don't think where I live is relavent. I'm also not stuck on the ideas of trips or junk. I just want to do something special for them.

Do you gave ideas of inexpensive trips?

Ye but if you live in my city, taking the kids to soft play is a huge treat and only costs 7 shekel a kid, but in your city it might be an expensive trip.

In my city bowling is very inexpensive
And the bowling alleys have gutter guards
Some indoor playgrounds are super inexpensive
Some further out children museums are very low budget like $8 a kid
Another idea to consider is a visit to a relative that lives a drop further out.
My kids love going to a certain relative who has a tree swing that goes super high and we don’t have it. They also give the kids cookies and orange juice which is not the usual for my house.

My kids get a 25-50 cents each time, and they can buy whatever they want with their money.
They’re all under 8 for reference.

How about hanging a swing in the clean playroom. Wall climbing. At home paint night

I don’t understand. You promised them a toy after a month and now you’re not ready? What does that mean?
