My mom in law is a maven on saing money... In Montreal, you get flyers once aweek with all the sales at certain stores so if she sees something on sale that she needs, she buys alot of it . she will not buy something if she can get it cheaper elsewhere.

also rainchecks, go at the end of a week of a sale and if there is nothing left ask for a raincheck.

buy generic brands instead of name brands when there really is no difference.

use every last bit of toothpaste/ shampoo/ soap.

shop around for the best prices.

when buying big things like electronic stuff, and baby equipment, go online and do lots of research to get the best qualty for the best price. read lots of reveiws. that way you dont end up buying 2 of the same thing b/c you dont like the first one. also online you can usually find the best price than in a real store. go to epinions.com or bizrate.com to compare prices.

alot of times if you look around there are websites that offer free shipping or very little and it comes out cheaper.
I've bought so many times online, I wouldnt dream of buying something big unless I researched first online.

Walmart Super Center has great prices for food. Coupons. Buy by the case(most stores will give you a discount). If you see something that can last for a long time and it is on sale, stock up! Buy fruits and veg at a produce store. Prices are great and they have faster turnover so you get fresher produce.

as far as I can remember I used to spend about $40 a month on formula for an 8 month old. times 12 months comes out to about $500, (thats in canadian dollars!) Wink
