Wasn't this tune and similar theme a song sung by Dveikus in Yiddish - Tateh, tateh, mir haben shoyn genug durchgemacht - Father, father, we have been through enough already. About a father of a soldier crying out to Hashem.....Enough Already!!!! I'm moved to tears every time I hear it while so many yidden live it.

here is the yiddish version as I learned many years ago.

there are probably a few versions to it.

The yiddish version is, I believe, a song written by Rabbi Davidowitz, one of the Roshei Yeshiva from Chofetz Chaim up in Rochester, NY. I think Shwekey was a talmid there for a while, as he credits it as a song written by his Rebbe. When my dh heard the Shwekey version, and saw the credit on the cd jacket, his reaction was "Shwekey went to Rochester?" (dh did also, years earlier).

Doesn't he sing the original in yiddish on one of his cds also?

Here are the English words in the song in the clip:

By the ancient cave of Ir Chevron
You'll see a man standing all alone
As the tears stream down his face
This is my hope my request
Where our forefathers rest

Oh my Father! My Dear Father!
The anguish of your children knows no end
Reach out to us with your helping hand
Oh my Father! My Dear Father!
How much more can Klal Yisrael take?
Remember Chasdei Avos for our sake

We are your children, Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov
Won't you carry our prayer to the One above?
As the tears stream down his face
This is my hope my request
Where our forefathers rest

(Chorus)

Oh my children! My dear children!
I've kept every precious tear you've ever shed
You will be redeemed ... (don't know the words here - lolam vaed?)
Every heartfelt tefilah will bring closer the geulah
V'zocher Chasdei Avos

Yeah. That got me too.

I actually like the Dveykus version better though. Maybe because I heard it first.

Yup, Yaakov Shwekey (who is a huge tzadik by the way) went to Rochester. My uncle, Rabbi Amster (who was the mashgiach there) just passed away recently.
