How to send condolences to a nonJew

ok, so unfortunately the neighbor passed away last night. My question now is: when do I send my card? Do I mail it out or just put it in their mailbox?
I'm going to write what louche suggested.

Legally you're not supposed to put anything in anyone's mailbox unless you're a letter carrier for the Postal Service but I don't suppose you'd be arrested for putting a card in their mailbox.

I'd wait a day lest you give the impression that you wrote the card in advance! Yes, newspapers keep obituary notices on file in advance, but newspapers are businesses and prominent people aren't going to be insulted by a standard industry practice.

oh no! I'm not sending it out today!!! I'm going to put it in her mailbox either sunday or monday.
