I used to love our shul's cholent, but now they make it with (pareve, probably non-nitrate) hot dogs!
Is it only me, or does anyone else think h.d. do NOT belong in cholent!

I know lots of ppl who make it with fleishik hot dogs. IMO it makes the cholent tatse good but leaches the taste out of the hot dogs themselves.

People put many different things in cholent. I have heard of using hot-dogs. I guess everyone has a different taste...

One time I had excellent cholent with hot dogs in it. Somehow they didn't come out all mushy. . . I don't know how they did it, but it was delicious cholent! They also put in beef jerky. I'm hungry now!

I've heard of putting in eggs, never tried it myself, though. What do you think?

eggs in cholent (actually a cholent-like dish called "hamin") is a sefaradi thing. the eggs turn brown, which is kind of neat.

Hot dogs in chulent is awful imo
However I've heard of someone who when making a shuls cholent puts the don't gasp I know I did but it's so true the fat of the chicken incl the skin in the chulent for flavour so she says And then takes it out after it's cooked. hmmm wonder now how she does that. But I tell u something I will never touch that cholent if I ever visit again

The absolute most delicious (and probably most expensive) cholent I ever had was with roast veal.
You owe it to yourself to try it on a special occasion.

I put meaty hot dogs and eggs in my cholent for my kids and they love it.
They donĀ“t like the meat it is too stringy for them.
we also have sweet potatoes which are yummy!
