Storing dressy hanging clothes

What is the best way to store dressy clothing you aren't planning to wear for a while?
If I want to store it on one side of my closet, what should I put them in so they don't get dusty?
What should I store them in if in a garage or basement??

If you are storing a wedding dress/gown, place it on a hanger, then wrap it in a flat sheet, and hang in the closet. (Better than plastic, which can make the clothes sweat, or yellow.)
If it's dressy suits and stuff that just came back from the cleaners, I would just store it in the cleaners bags.
If not, I would buy the shoulder protectors to keep the dust away.

remove plastic cleaners bags immediately. They trap residual dry cleaning solvent vapors that can discolor clothes. If you're not going to wear the clothes soon, wrap in a white sheet or pillowcase. Buy a bunch of white pillocases--make that, salvage a bunch of old white pillowcases from your grandmother's house--cut a small hole in the center of the side opposite the opening, and pull over the hanger just like a dry cleaner bag. Et voila! perfect storage.
