I recently started putting in barley in my cholent (slow cooker) and for some reason the barley always sets on the bottom and I end up have all the barley as a mush on the bottom and the rest of the cholent mixed.
The taste is great, but for some reason the barley doesnt stay mixed with the rest of the cholent.

Is there a trick to the game?

mix the beans beforehand so they are evenly distributed, and when cooked halfway give it another mix.

I usually put kishka on top or meat so it keeps the beans down.

You only need a bit of barley in the chulent. How much are you using? (I use about 1/4 cup barley to 1 cup beans.)

I mix everything in the pot together. (including meat & veges) but I make sure that meat is towards top.
kishka goes ontop right before shabbos.
