Someone mentioned a trick for emptying the pomagranate on the RH menu thread.
Anyone know what this is?

Put the pomegranate in a bowl of water, and take out the kernels while under water.

cut it in half, and plop into a bowl with lots of water. Then, peel the skins layer by layer and the kernels will fall out and into the bowl. Then, when you're done, drain the water!

I thank you, too. I've been wondering exactly how it's done.

Another way is to cut halfway down the center, then pull apart, so you don't ruin any kernels by cutting them, then place one half in a bag, tie a knot, and knock on the shell with a big spoon or something heavy - I use a metal ice cream scoop. Most kernels come sliding out

I cut it in 1/2 try to separate the seeds from the skin a bit then using a heavy spoon bang the back of the pom.
makes a bit of a mess so I like to do it in the sink so I don't end up w/ stains
but its fast and easy

if you use a bowl of water: be careful about the issur of 'borer' on shabbos. you shouldn't poor the water out but take the kernels out of the water...
enjoy!
