so my DH's mother drove me crazy this year.
she was yelling at me why, after they go to the bathroom do I not bathe the kids.
I was like what? after every bathroom? she says yes! otherwise you are not clean!
thats what she says she does- she soaks in the tub several times a day after every bathroom.
she is a very busy person but she says you must make time for hygene.
she actually made me feel very bad.
do you?

I honestly think that's ridiculous, but if you really think it's a good idea, try a sitz bath.

Tell her there's this great new invention... kids wipes! We keep them in each bathroom, the kids use them to wipe, and it gets them really clean + they're flushable! Besides so many baths would be very bad for their skin - too drying.

she doesn't seem to realize that her behavior is bizarre

I agree with motek the behavior is a bit wierd.
I would spend all day in the bathroom if I did that.

word to the wise - those flushable wipes are not always so flushable after a while. we found that out the hard way!
I think that your MIL takes it a little far for herself (maybe she should get a baday).
I could see sticking a toddler's tush under the water after a dirty diaper or first thing in the morning. my mother would do that with my kids and over yom tov I did it to my baby and 2 y.o. but only b/c I don't use baby wipes on yom tov (or shabbos) and I find the shpritz to be very annoying. (on shabbos when I can't use warm water, I am "stuck" with using the shpritz)
but, I wouldn't do it after each diaper change - only first thing in the morning if necessary and after a very dirty diaper.

Try to picture this....
Family with 10 kids, about to go on a family trip for the day. Mother tells everyone to go to the bathroom 'one last time' before the long trip.
Family doesn't leave the house till somewhere in the mid afternoon!!

My baby makes four or five bowel movements a day. If I were to bathe him five times a day, he'd turn into a prune! Do I have to jump into the shower every time I use the toilet too?
chuckle.
