In recipes that call for dark brown sugar can I use light brown instead? In Costco they sell a huge pkge of light brown sugar but not dark and it's a really good price...

When I used light brown sugar instead of dark brown in a recipe, I had to add a bit of granulated sugar as well.
It works though.
Using a bit more of the light brown than the recipe calls for should also work.

Yup. The flavor in dark is a little bit more intense, but I doubt anybody but you (and maybe your mother Wink) would notice the difference.

Don't worry about it. I always buy the large bags of light brown & use it whenever a recipe calls for brown sugar.

do it except the flavour is not as intense ... you can always add more molasses which is what gives it the nice flavour and colour

I do it all the time. It's a little "lighter" flavor, and the color will be lighter as well. I also flip with corn syrup too based on what I have in the house.

I always use them interchangeably and I don't notice it makes any difference in taste.

Sure. I always do. I even like the light better. The dark has a very strong taste.
