Would you use fat pencils for homework w/ a 2nd grade child who has poor fine motor skills?

The question is, would s/he use them?
I'd recommend trying an array, and seeing what was most comfortable/productive -- fat pencils, mechanical pencils, regular pencils with triangular grips.
The problem with the fat pencils is that they often have a thicker point, and that can be difficult if they have to do a lot of writing. But for some kids, it might be good. Why not experiment?

Try Jumbo Pencil Grips - pricey, but my kids LOVED them. If you know an OT they may be able to lend a variety of grips to see which helps (I think the teachers should have them...)
I bought mine from
http://www.learninggearplus.com/
Here it's a little cheaper, but check the shipping $$$

(I couldn't find the jumbos on ebay)

Thanks! Funny, before reading the replies I bought a jumbo grip at a parent/teacher store here today. We'll see how it works out. I also bought 50% fat pencils so they are between regular and fat in size. I'll try to remember and post results in case they could be helpful for someone else too.
