I know that it's actually similar to potato kugel really, but I can't put ketchup on it! No way! Actually, my potato kugel is shredded potatoes and my latkes are blended, so that's pretty different! |
why would you put ketchup on potato kugel?????? ive never heard of that!!
actually ive never heard of ketchup on latkes either but it makes sense I guess kindof like hash browns....right? just guessing |
My potato kugel is basically hashbrowns in a loaf. Now my latkes are fluffy and kinda pancake-y. Big difference! I know other people make them differently though! My mom actually saw a pic of latkes in some magazine and couldn't believe that they were made with shredded potatoes, it's just not done in my family!

I'm thinking tuna on a potato latke - anyone care to join me?
(I guess I really like tuna...I ordered a tuna melt at the Imamother meet.)

I love them best when their hot just off the pan with sour cream, but when I was growing up I would dip them in sugar.
Just the thought of latkes with ketchup makes me churn - who would do such a thing?!?!
My family will do applesauce, it's just that I really don't like applesauce.

Just a question out of curiosity for those who put sweet things (apple sauce, sugar, jam) on latkes. Do you make your latkes with onion? You mean, you put sweet stuff on things with onion????!!!!!
Would love latkes with creme fraiche and smoked salmon... Except my seph husband won't allow me. Parve sour cream are so yuck! Am thinking of wasabi (or Gold's wasabi sauce) and salmon on latkes this year.

You know, once onions are cooked, they're sweet?
