For those saying that police just stood and watched: the videos I saw showed policemen reaching into the mass to pull people to safety, and Police pulling down corrugated metal partitions (Very difficult),to give the crowd an escape route and relieve the crush. All at tremendous personal risk of being crushed themselves.

Let's honour our first responders whom worked to save more lives from an unimaginable accident. It was a terrible situation, and the men whom ran to help are not to blame.

How do we tell our children??
My 7 year old son knew Dovi well. How can I explain something I myself can’t wrap my head around??

With great gentleness, just the very basic details is best for children. "A terrible accident happened in Eretz Yisrael, and someone we know was niftar. We are so sad.". Allow him to ask questions, be very basic with the details, "A ramp collapsed and some people fell down and were niftar.". Allow him to express all of his feelings and just validate, validate, validate. Make sure to tell him that if he hears anything scary from friends he should come talk to you about it.

Explain it to him like purpleandgold said... Hashem yishmor Hashem yerachem

No one even wants to hear music today... is this how they felt when R Akiva's talmidim were niftar??

Be sure to differentiate that this is not the same kind of ramp that he sees in front of stores for accessibility, or like the bleachers in his school gym. Ie not a ramp that he's ever going to encounter.
