My DH is against any modern name. I always argue with him and I don't understand why yiddish names are okay. If he only wants biblical that's fine, but yiddish names were modern at some point also and many came from other languages. He would never use the names aviva, Elana, Leora, shira, etc even thought to me they are not so modern anymore.

Where do you get this 'list' of names that R' Kanievsky doesn't like- and how do you all know about this?

Modern Hebrew names often are chosen by parents who really don't care about the Biblical portion of it- but rather care about the meaning of the name- so that is probably 'Ruach HaKodesh'- that they match the meaning to the child, or what they hope for a child.
For example, I have a friend (girl) named Dikla, who chose her daughter's name Ophir. Now- in Tanach, they are both boys. But in hebrew, the meanings are beautiful.

How do you know that? Do you have ruach haKodesh about what other people care about?
