Enjoy the place you can call your own. Don't forget to get appropriate insurance.
Go easy on interior design, DIY etc. Make sure your DH has a toolbox and manual
(plus a plumber's mobile number).

Tp: iyh on the 12! I do not realize it yet 
Ducky: We wanted a big apt (3 bedrooms, nice living room), low floor (1!), near shul (shul in building kollel next door!), frum area, kid friendly (park lake and eruved playground in front), walking distance of Jewish shops, not too much to change in decoration. There are two balconies we will close one as a loggia when we can afford
We also got bonuses like a big parent room and a gorgeous bathroom, neighbours to carpool with, very close to my fav mall and subway and even an Ashkenazic minian for holidays bh.
MrsBissli my dh is so not going to touch stuff
We have found plumbers to put in two sinks instead of one. The lady gave me her American fridge only bad news is that it isn't fully kosherable, we will have to ask a shaila if aluminium will be needed on a small place inside on Pessach...
We will only change what needs to be done before the furniture is in, like painting. Iyh going tomorrow to start
