Is it really true that no one gets tuition breaks in Lakewood and everyone pays the same $3000/yr tuition? How is it so cheap?

Many people in Lakewood do get tuition breaks, and I don't know of any schools that have $3000 tuition.

I heard that the tuition is more, but if you apply for a scholarship then the minimum you have to pay is atleast $3,000 ( actually I heard it was $3,500). No one can pay less, officially.

What $3,000? hows about over $5,000 for boys. Girls might be $4,500. There are some places that will give off, but not down to $3,000. Most boys schools full tuition are getting closer to $6,000, since they go up $100 every year.

Because the old adage is true here more than ever

I pay $6000 for boys, almost $5000 girls.

some schools if husband is learning and you have multiple kids in the school will give a break.

But I know I have a SIL whose DH is learning and she sends to a very yeshivish school with slightly lower tuition, when she asked for a break for her second child they told her if she can afford water and bread she still has to pay full.

There are cheaper schools and schools that will give bigger breaks. But I don't know anyone paying 3000.

this is for elementary. Highschool is more.

(For the record I think both my kids are getting excellent education)

That is not true.
Your comment is quite offensive.
My children are receiving a great education by dedicated and devoted teachers who are constantly updating their methods and truly care to see each child do the best he/she can. There is so much healthy competition that pushes each school to the max. I am in chinuch for 15 years and am quite critical and yet for the most part I have only been impressed. Trust me, the pay is negligent but those that stick to teaching are truly doing it because they care/ are good at it etc
Of course there are always some schools/ teachers that are exceptions , like everywhere, but your comment is totally off.

Anon only because I don't want my screen name connected to my location and profession

I think you meant that the pay is negligible. Unless your paycheck ignores you...

But how is it possible? The English teachers in Brooklyn might make a little more than Lakewood and even if the rebbeim in Brooklyn make 30% more, how do Lakewood yeshivas make ends meet? Brooklyn Yeshivas need to charge close to 10k tuition to meet their bills. How are Lakewood yeshivas able to do it with so much less money? I realize that the physical building itself is cheaper in Lakewood but buildings are usually paid for thru a building fund, not tuition. Are the secretaries and maintenance staff making that much less in Lakewood? Cost of utilities much cheaper?

My sons school charges over $7,000 after all the nickel and diming. Their expenses are the same as the cheaper Lakewood schools. The difference is they do much less fundraising.

After everything adds up (busing, lunches, tuition, building fee, dinner, etc) Our tuition in Lakewood is higher then 7000 at the end of the day (for boys at least).
And the school fundraises a lot. supposedly they raise over 2.5 million per year besides for tuition and building fund (like during the dinner). They are excellent fundraisers.

The school I send too has a reputation that they pay principals very well, and teachers well. And they are always paid on time.

I think it makes a big difference in the school and education.

Whose talking about what we make as teachers?
Your offensive comment was specifically "you get what you pay for" , insinuating that Our education is subpar, which is just not true.
The education in Lakewood is not any different than that of most large mainstream Jewish communities. I believe it has nothing to do with how much tuition we are paying. In contrary , perhaps the teachers are doing their very best despite not being paid well because they are doing it for the right reasons ...

I apologize profusely if I wasn't clear . I wasn't talking about teachers salaries.
My son went to Bais ha Torah in Lakewood and was absolutely miserable. He got into fights daily because he wasn't challenged enough
The limudi chol was abysmal and BHT has a name for taking English seriously
He transferred to YNJ . The no child left behind law and a few generous sponsors helped me pay the 20k tuition
In 3 months he was a different child
He's been thriving ever since

I don't know how old your son is, but I heard Bais HaTorah changed. It used to be very intense and follow a unique style that didn't suit every kid. I think it's new people now and different.

I don't think the Bais HaTorah of 5+ years ago is a good example of most Lakewood schools today.
