Anyone remembers Gloria Shoppe from the 1960s, a costume jewelry store on the corner of 13/46 where the mens shoe store is now? I loved that place.
Or National Gift Shop, diagonally across from there, that had a huge windowful of dinnerware and tabletop stuff?
Sorry couldnt find the thread about old stores on 13th.

I moved out of BP 18 yrs ago and have barely gone back.
It seems like it's a complete different situation than it was in my days.
I think that my wedding was the last chasunah that took place in the "old Armon Terrace before they redid it " when they still had pink floral wall paper and pink moldings. Now it doesn't exist at all. That's where we also had our Bais Yakov Chanukah chagigas and our 12th grade graduation. Where does the time go? |
Not sure why this thread was bumped but I also always shopped all odds and ends at ABC. From hair accessories to underwear to school supplies. They should’ve named it A-Z. Mr G was always so nice and extremely patient. Wonder if we lived in the same neighborhood.

(Quoting slategray: I also remember when m&m shoe store closed where toys for you is and I remember the relief and satisfaction. shock I know but the salesman/owner was such a nasty haughty person. I cringed every time I wanted to go in to look. I knew I wasnt buying anything. I felt so uncomfortable there. abd I knew it was for people who could afford it.
he was expensive and sometimes I could find the same shoes he was selling in century for much cheaper then him. those were the days.[/quote])
First of all, this piece you wrote about M&M shoes is outright Lashon Hara! Especially putting this out on a public forum. Please remove your words immediately.
Second, I know the owners and they were actually very nice people IRL. Maybe you were a difficult client.
Third, I really liked their company shoes, they made their own brand called MIRAMAX, which was the most comfortable shoes I even wore. It was no where to be found besides at their store.
They carried brand name and the real comfortable shoes.
There were imitations that looked identical to theirs but the quality of the shoes were far off.
Pricewise- you get what you pay for.
Please be careful to way you 'speak' on a public forum.

After the great Exodus from Brooklyn, there will be nostalgia threads reminiscing about the shopping.
