Recently DH heard a chassiddush rav speaking that in the Lakewood the boys are being influenced to grow the front of the hair. Because here it is acceptable.
(Tchup is long hair in the front - either bang or hair cut thicker in front with scissors instead of shaver)
My boys have tchup and no payis before they grow sideburns. Our rav said that is perfectly acceptable per our minhag. (We are yeshivish) |
A yeshivish school doesn’t make them have payos?

Fascinating Comment from the Chazon Ish Detailing His Halachic Perspective on Growing a ‘Tchup’ (Forelock)
The Chazon Ish states that it is permitted to grow a "tshup" for beauty reasons
( although not recommended)

Ricky Ricardo! Oooh, that dates you! (Us?)
I heard a rebbi tell his h.s. boys, why are you wearing your sister's socks?
I think it's great that you posted a source that is MATIR. Evidently boys ARE taken in by trends and DO need breathing room. Rather than start to hyperventilate, parents - and rebbeim? - can share sources with the boys and if these trends are allowed in the yeshiva, tell the boys to decide for themselves, based on halacha and who they are and want to be.
It works for girls, doesn't it?

In the front. And I guess according the Chazon Ish it's not a tefillin problem.

Op, I find your post very judgmental.
Why did you put a link for seforim?
You have no idea why some boys “need” the tchup. Very often as these boys mature and find themselves they no longer have a hairstyle and instead get an ‘over the top ‘ hair cut.
I don’t know who you are or why you felt the need to post something judgemental but your anonymous post will not help anyone.
I’m sure you do some things that are not ‘recommended’. Isn’t it best for people to just mind their own business?

It’s not Halacha. Only the hair that grows from the sideburns.
It’s minhag to grow the hair long.
You just can’t shave with a razor the area around the ear. We don’t wear those styles so it’s not an issue.
(My DH took our sons into bmg to the rav who Paskens there to show him the payis and he said that is typical litvish minhag)

My dh gets an over the top cut. I hate the look so bad. It’s not what I’m used to and to my eye it looks bald.
There’s a happy medium between full fledged tchup and over the top.

Yes I know what sideburns are. She said her sons’ school doesn’t make them leave payos before they actually grow sideburns, and I am surprised as I have never heard of a yeshivish school that would be ok not leaving any hair on the side by the ears.

Live and let live, especially because, as you say, the Chazon Ish is okay with it. I'm not sure why this post exists. |
There’s no comparison between a chassidish minhag that’s passed down, and a trend of jews copying a gentile style.

I’m honestly trying to understand why you would start a thread about tchups making you cringe when you are pretty much aware that there might be people here who’s family styles their hair that way?
Can we stop cringing when anyone does anything more to the right or left of our family minhagim?

It's been years since I've seen people with this hair style.
Has it become "trendy" again?

Do you mean long hair behind the ear?
Long hair in front of the ear?
We trim to wear the hair stops growing in front of the ear and trim with scissors - thin and short.
According to Halacha it is 100% Muttar
My sons cheder occasionally sends out reminders to parents not to shave the hair around the ear. We don’t do that.
