I am a special instructor through EI and absolutely love this age group. There is so much that can be done, the younger the better. Family training and effective carryover strategies to be implemented between sessions are really important. This helps you navigate the challenges you are dealing with. When looking for a provider, I would suggest to make sure that the provider is ready and able to give over guidance. You want to be able to generalize what she is working on so it makes an impact on your child's daily life, not just in the half hour sessions.
Another thing to look out for is if you and the provider can collaberate and can have set goals in mind. The provider can then set up smaller goals to help reach the overall goal. (Scaffolding skills) This will also help make each session be more purposeful instead of turning into fancy babysitting or shmoozing with you and a waste of time.
Hatzlacha rabba!

my son went to a special toddler program for 2 year olds as part of the county board of developmental disabilities. socialization was great for him--- and there were age appropriate toys there and a huge muscle room--- it was just 2 days a week and they were able to give input on his first IEP right before he turned 3 and transitioned to school age. They worked on feeding skills, playing skills, socialization, gross and fine motor.... they even had the kids nap--- it's a real skill to nap on a cot without climbing on other kids or running around the room, etc. This was in Ohio--- don't know if all states have similar.
